Ár Scéal - Our Story

Daróg – A love of wine. A passion for food. A connection to place

Opened in July 2023, Daróg Wine Bar (Irish: small oak tree) is nestled in the heart of Galway city. Brought to life by husband-and-wife team Zsolt Lukács and Edel McMahon-Lukács, Daróg is a true passion project.

Zsolt, a sommelier with twelve years of experience at the Michelin-starred Aniar Restaurant, has meticulously curated a wine list that highlights unique selections from small, off-the-beaten-path producers. This dedication has earned Daróg several accolades, including the RAI Awards for Best Wine Experience in Connaught & All Ireland (2024) and the Food & Wine Awards for Best Wine Experience in Connaught (2023). Daróg was also featured as one of Ireland’s Top 25 Wine Bars by the Irish Independent (2024).

Edel, with over fifteen years of design and marketing experience working with top-tier restaurants, channels her passion for food and art into Daróg.

The kitchen is led by Attila Galambos, a three-time finalist in the prestigious Euro-Toques Ireland and former sous chef at Aniar. Originally from Hungary, Attila combines his culinary experience in France, Japan, Denmark, and Ireland with local suppliers and produce to ensure this ‘small oak tree’ stays true to its roots in the West of Ireland. Daróg's commitment to sustainability has also been recognised with the Star Wine List's Best Sustainable Wine List award (2023).

In the vibrant and culturally rich heart of Galway, where English and Irish intertwine seamlessly, Daróg is a proud supporter of the Irish language. Edel and Zsolt are dedicated to integrating the beauty of the Irish language into the very essence of Daróg.

Daróg is open 6 days a week, Tuesday to Sunday.
Tuesday to Thursday: 5pm to 11pm.
Friday - Sunday: 3pm to 11pm.

Daróg Wine List

At Daróg, we take great pride in offering a wine list that reflects our commitment to excellence, sustainability, and the artistry of winemaking. Our selection is carefully curated to showcase the craftsmanship of small Artisan producers who share our passion for organic, biodynamic, and sustainable practices.

Our diverse collection embodies the dedication of these producers, who strive to create wines that resonate with the terroir and the environment in which they are cultivated. From modern funky to classic wines, each wine on our list tells a story of tradition, innovation, and a profound respect for nature. We present an extensive array of wines available by the glass, made possible through the innovative Coravin system.

Our menus are printed on recycled paper derived from post-consumer waste, created with residual grape materials and powered entirely by 100% green energy sources.
